Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
Kids Korner/Teen Korner is dedicated to enhancing the opportunities for underprivileged children and teens living in two North Hollywood housing complexes. By supplementing their education, providing enriching projects, and being supportive friends for these amazing kids and teens we seek to develop their social and intellectual skills and broaden their prospects for the future. Kids Korner has played a vital role in providing a weekend mentoring and tutorial program for children living in North Hollywood. Our volunteers provide weekly tutoring services to these children in their own homes; the nature of the program allows close contact not only with the children, but also with their families. Kids Korner volunteers are fortunate to see the lifestyles of these children, thus giving our volunteers the ability to cater to the specific needs of each individual child. Proximity to their parents allows them to interact with volunteers and engage in the development of the program through feedback and participation in activities, such as field trips. The program transports Kids Komer members to work with approximately forty children ages 3 to 18, in Harmony Place and Harmony Gardens. Volunteers are trained to work with the different age groups by developing activities and curriculums that are geared towards their needs by talking to the local schools and gaining a better understanding of what the state standards mandate as appropriate educational levels for children.
